A marriage of colour conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.

This year the colour experts of Pantone selected two independent colours as colour of the year for 2021. Ultimate Gray (Pantone 17-5104) and Illuminating (Pantone 13-0647) are two independent colours that highlight how different elements come together to support one another. Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, the union of these grey and yellow colours is one of strength and positivity. We need to feel that everything is going to get brighter – this is essential to the human spirit.

Of course, PanAmerican Seed is always on trend and has colour matches for both of these colours. Look for example at our violas and petunias and you will find beautiful matches for yellow Illuminating. In the Fantastic Foliage collection you will discover attractive silver foliage items that fit the grey colour of the year perfectly.

Dichondra Silver Falls

Dichondra Silver Falls is one of the most popular products of PanAmerican Seed, probably because it is such a versatile product. Silver Falls is perfect for solo and mixed planters, baskets, gardens and landscapes. As an outdoor plant it makes a pretty ground cover or trailing plant, but growing this dichondra indoors in a container is also a great option. This evergreen, hardy plant grows gorgeous silvery foliage and makes a nice addition to any home with the right care.

Petunia Easy Wave® Silver

This year the Wave-brand existed 25 years and one of the wonderful series which is part of the brand is Easy Wave.  This series has a more mounded shape and controlled spread than Wave® varieties. They are perfect for solo and mixed planters and baskets, gardens and landscapes and they deliver customer-pleasing performance all Summer long! Easy Wave is available in a wide array of decorator colours, including Silver.

Gaillardia Mesa™ Yellow

Gaillardia x grandiflora ‘Mesa Yellow’ is a multifunctional addition to the popular range of first-year flowering perennials and can be used both in the ground and in containers. It tolerates a very wide range of climates, including hot/humid, hot/dry and cool/moist (in well-drained soil).

This variety won a Fleuroselect Gold Medal a couple of years ago. The product was rated highly by the Fleuroselect judges for its all-round performance. Growers appreciate the arrival of this first commercial-quality, yellow Gaillardia from seed. The variety fills a container quickly and fits into the category of first-year flowering perennials requiring no vernalisation. The uniform flowering gives the variety an added advantage. For retailers the value lies in the bright yellow flowers which attract attention to the plant and in the pot it appears compact and well-branched forming an excellent display in the garden centres. Consumers will be delighted that the variety is drought-tolerant after the plant has been established. The long flowering season is a definite plus as are the strong stems that do not tip over in the garden.

Pansy Frizzle Sizzle Lemonade

PanAmerican Seed is the only professional supplier of this kind of Pansy with an unique, frilly flower form. Stronger ruffling occurs in cool conditions; Spring production is recommended. Pansy Frizzle Sizzle looks great in containers and “close-up” landscapes. This bright, cheery white, cream and yellow/white bicolour fits perfectly with the trend Pantone colour, yellow Illuminating.

Viola Sorbet® XP Lemon Ice Blotch

Next to Frizzle Sizzle Lemonade, also this nice Lemon Ice Blotch colour within the Viola Sorbet XP series fits the yellow trend colour. You can find the best-looking violas for Spring and Autum in the Sorbet XP series, with an uniform plant habit and the tightest bloom window. Sorbet XP excels at every turn: the plants cover the soil at flowering, with more blooms on every plant and less stretching. The series stays compact in both heat and cold and is also excellent for overwintering.

Plectranthus Silver Shield

A well-branched and undemanding plant that adds unusual silvery hues to many landscapes and gardens. These robust, vigorous and stress-tolerant accent plants have a bushy, upright habit, which are excellent for landscapes and combination planters. The economical, easy-to-produce seed-grown plants offer better branching than vegetative varieties, with no pinching needed. Attractive, silvery, plush-velvet, leaves and small mauve to white flowers are presented above the foliage on sage-like spires in Autumn.

Dusty Miller Maritima Silverdust

Dusty Miller Silverdust is known for its attractive silvery-gray foliage and mounding form and makes a lovely accent plant in the border or in containers. The plants have lacy, lobed and deeply cut, silvery white gray velvety leaves, and are perfect to soften colour contrasts in the garden, tone-down bright, hot colours. Dusty Miller produces flowers that are golden yellow in colour. The silvery colored foliage makes a wonderful back-drop for brightly colored bedding plants. The contrasts can be very striking.

Many other varieties in the PanAmerican Seed assortment fit the Pantone colour Illuminating Yellow, for example:
